ArtemBorodatiuk

IT entrepreneur by trade. DJ by choice.

I founded FRACTAL, a Kyiv-based group of 30 IT companies. DJing is my hobby, and I treat it with the same discipline: underground house, minimal, breaks and electro, bought one track at a time.

Underground
first

I don't stick to one BPM or one genre. A set can move from deep, hypnotic minimal to broken beats and back. What stays the same is the source: independent labels, records with groove, nothing from the charts.

One rule is not up for discussion: no Russian artists.

Tech house, minimal

The thing I love most. One side is close to Romanian minimal, calm and deep. The other is driving, rolling and groovy.

Cadenza, Desolat, Cocoon, Ostgut Ton

Breaks and electro

UK bass and broken beats, stylish rather than poppy. The hardest to prepare: I buy around a hundred tracks to keep one.

Klasse Wrecks, Lobster Theremin, Club Designs

Deep, hypnotic house

Slow, groovy, with dub and ethnic touches and long 16 to 32 bar loops. For late nights and open airs.

Innervisions, Kompakt, Running Back

Playful house, indie dance

Positive and full of groove, but never commercial. Electronica and indie dance from labels with a point of view.

Permanent Vacation, Warp, Ninja Tune

Labels I love

Giegling Kompakt Innervisions Ostgut Ton Cadenza Desolat Rekids Running Back Cocoon Wisdom Teeth Permanent Vacation Klasse Wrecks Lobster Theremin Warp

In rotation

Four Tet, Martin Buttrich, Masomenos, Traumer, Session Victim, Minilogue, Radio Slave, Hermeth, Mark Broom, Shonky, Luis Caballero, Robag Wruhme, Roman Flügel, DJ Koze, LFO, Two Lone Swordsmen.

Counted from my Rekordbox collection: 933 bought tracks from 535 labels, median tempo 127 BPM, half of it released in the 2020s. Party and pop playlists are left out.

Sets

Full recordings. Every set is a different room, a different mood and different music.

Promin’

A mini album made together with Cepasa, a Ukrainian electronic artist. It puts Ukrainian musical heritage into the language of modern electronic music.

The title track is built on 1993 broadcasts of Promin’ radio, jingles and voice-overs several generations grew up with, together with the voice of Veronika Makovii. The video is by Mykhailo Volkov. A limited vinyl run came out with the release.
